Ray Massey
Ray Massey was born in Somerset in the South-West of England. Thirteen years later, he discovered photography whilst experimenting with pinhole cameras made from coffee tins in a General Science lesson at school. He is still enchanted by his first experience of watching a print develop "before my eyes", the memory of which remains with him as a constant reminder of the magic of photography.
He studied Fine Art, Graphic Design and Photography at colleges in Somerset (England) and Kent (Ohio).
During Art School Massey was able to try new techniques and styles, he also learned the importance of lighting and composition. Some of his earliest works consisted of editorial commissions for magazines, music and publishing.
Unfortunately Ray Massey's birthday is not known so I am unable to give any dates that may come up in his life. At the age of 21 Massey became an independent freelance photographer from his first studio in Camden.

Style
Massey's style includes still lifes with lots of color and editing, he says that touching up and editing photos is "Integral" to the process. He primarily does brand deals and is hired by many large companies such as Coca Cola, Sprite, Porsche and many more. His style is very pleasing to look at as his still lifes usually seem like they are merely a part of a much greater finish. His works use lots of digital editing to make the colors pop more or to make sure that the texture of the image is very easy to notice/see.
Philosophy
Massey's Philosophy is to make the images stand out and get them noticed. That philosophy is the entire premise of his business that is why companies hire him to work for the. This is and interesting situation because it may be the necessary philosophy for him to make a living it may not be the style he enjoys. This really makes me wonder what his photos would look like if he had no needs and it was just a hobby, how would his style change?
Influence
Lot's of Massey's inspiration comes from both his previous works and the companies whom he works with. He gets lots of inspiration from past photos but is able to come up with great ideas with different products and due to his massive amount of different styles, he has so many choices to follow. This allows for lots of sources to contribute to his Influence. THis is why his styles are so wild.
Photos, Massey Vs. Mine.
Le Creuset (Ray Massey)
Cracked Pot of Moral
This is a photo that I really struggled with Even with the finished product. I feel as though the colors that Ray Massey achieved are only able to be created when there is no excessive editing present. Unfortunately I could only edit the photo I took and hand to create an entirely new background. This was a massive challenge as this was a skill I had not learned before so this was the first time I had ever tried this.
Le Pentole Pasta Pan (Ray Massey)
A Sorry Reflection
This Photo Is one that I struggled with as well the background was was once again completely created by me. I feel as though I was able to create this background better than before but it still looks incredibly flat. I think that If there was one thing I could change it would be to create the real background accurately. I feel as though the layers really show and that it is very obvious that they overlap and they aren't a single image.
Le Parfait Jars
Jars of various Spirals
I really like this image within the 3 tries that I had in order to recreate images I feel that this one looks the best I feel that thanks to these attempts I have definitely gotten better at creating fake backgrounds and foregrounds I really like how the background came out I had to use a special filter and blur tool in order for it to look similar to the background of Massey's photos. I believe that if get more practice with creating new backgrounds than I will become much more adept at replicating photos.
